The Category and Concepts Laboratory at St. Mary's College of Maryland is always looking for new Research Assistants (RA) to join the lab. As a RA, you will gain valuable experience in a variety of data analytics, in developing and implementing experiments and survey questionnaires, and writing and presenting research. Past RAs have gone to professional conferences to present the research they worked on with Professor Roger Stanton.
Recent Projects:
Single-System and Multiple-System Model Comparisons
This work examines two competing mathematical models of how people learn conceptual information and then how that learning impacts later decisions about those concepts. To date, Roger Stanton has published three articles on this topic and this research has been presented at multiple conferences. Currently, RAs are working with Professor Roger Stanton to examine the ability of these models to account for results of a reported dissociation. Across this research, RAs gain experience in statistical analysis, testing mathematical models using MATLAB and C/C++ (this requires a prior knowledge of programming), developing experiemnts and surveys, and wriitng and presenting.
Response Time models
In the laboratory we are currently investigating the ability of a random-walk model to account for distinctiveness effects in recognition experiments. This research heavily involves mathematical modeling and is best suited for students with a strong background in mathematics and programming.
